Limestone and Granite Supplied to Hammersmith Grove Public Realm

Completed in 2012-2013, the Hammersmith Grove public realm development used a blue limestone unusually paired with a buff coloured natural granite paving. BBS worked with the architects and landscape architects to achieve spectacular results in natural stone solutions for a streetscape design that is not just on the horizontal plane but also takes in the vertical vision.

A honed finish has been applied to wall copings and street bollards which both use a blue limestone, an unusual material selection when compared to similar projects. The anti-skateboard grooves cut into the corners of the coping stones help prevent damage to the edges from regular scuffing and chipping.

Typically blue limestone isn't commonly used in partnership with buff coloured natural granite paving however in this case the two work well together. The two material finishes complement each other and marry the two stones together to give the area a fresh, contemporary look to the streetscape. Natural stone products can also act as a natural defence for pedestrians. This proves that natural stone, in particular granite paving, can and should be used extensively in architectural landscape scenarios.

Both materials were selected to be hard-wearing and easy to maintain. Since installation the stone has remained consistent aesthetically and has maintained its beauty. Feel free to browse the pictures below to see the public realm in use.
