BBS Provides External Landscaping Solution for Johnstone Town Hall, Renfrewshire

BBS worked with the landscaping sub-contractor, Malcolm Construction, to offer natural stone solutions for the public realm.

The Project which saw a former run-down leisure building transformed into a new high-quality town hall for Renfrewshire Council with a quality public realm to match.

To keep in line with Scottish tradition, a mixture of Caithness flagstone from A & D Sutherland and Chinese granite was selected for the external hard landscaping.

Over the course of the two-year construction period installation included Scottish Caithness flagstone paving combined with Chinese silver-grey granite for smaller paved areas, setts, tactile units, kerbs, bollards, walling, tapered step units and bespoke solid granite bench seating.

The project demonstrates a logistical success by BBS to manage timescales efficiently for the delivery of multiple stone types sourced from opposite ends of the world on time, in perfect condition and within budget.

The completed £14.5 million pound project was opened in March 2015 and includes a main hall, theatre space, library, coffee shop, meeting rooms, offices, marriage ceremony suite and a dance studio.

Johnstone Town Hall was named Public Building of the Year 2015 (Scottish Property Awards) & Project of the year (RICS Scotland Awards 2016).
