BBS Brick and Stone Ltd Celebrates Award-Winning Contribution to Glasgow's Iconic M8 Footbridge

The landmark project, commissioned by Glasgow City Council and designed by renowned firms LDA and Jacobs, establishes a vital connection between the Sighthill area and the city centre. Constructed by BAM Nuttall, the footbridge exemplifies world-class urban design and infrastructure.

BBS supplied a bespoke range of high-quality Portuguese Granite for all aspects of the project. This included:

• 2,500m² of paving
• 550 linear metres of seating walls and kerbs
• 69 flights of steps
• Street furniture and planters

Carefully sourced through BBS's recently established supply chain partnership, these materials played a key role in the footbridge's modern and visually stunning design.

BBS worked closely with the project's design and site teams, ensuring seamless procurement, detailed scheduling, and just-in-time delivery. Attention to detail, including packaging and phased delivery, was critical in maintaining the project’s tight timeline and high-quality standards.

The project’s exceptional quality and innovative design earned it the Stone Federation Landscaping & Public Realm Award. Competing against numerous high-caliber submissions, the M8 Footbridge stood out as an exemplar of craftsmanship, collaboration, and sustainable design.

Representatives from BBS attended the awards ceremony on 6th December 2024 at the Leonardo Hotel in London, alongside partners from Jacobs, LDA, and BAM Nuttall, to celebrate this outstanding achievement.

This is a significant public realm landscaped masonry project that has consistently achieved the highest order in design, scale and detailed implementation.
