Barking Town Centre
Published 19th August 2013In recent times BBS has worked closely with London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and MUF Architects to produce many schemes using European natural stone materials; most recently supplying the Barking Town Centre Scheme. Barking Town Centre is part of the Mayor’s 100 public spaces programme.
The public realm design makes a coherent new space for the town square. This is where the town hall, the library, a faculty of the University of East London, the one-stop-shop, a child and primary health care centre, approximately 500 new homes, retail, cafes and a major public art commission all come together. The stone of choice for the paving and kerbs has been Portuguese silver grey from Penafiel complimenting the Pink Spanish granite already supplied to LBBD on previous projects.
The latest schemes supplied include Barking Central 2, The NHS LIFT and Axe Street where standard paving sits alongside complex planting arrangements and Yorkstone step features. The steps were are supplied by BBS.
