As part of the BBS CSR drive, Kevin Hives has been working with a horse-riding for disabled children, based in Hannington near Northampton. The charity is called Venture RDA. Kevin started volunteering with the charity over 10 years ago, but has recently had the opportunity to ‘take the reigns’ and become a trustee for the charity along with his wife and daughter. They collectively run the charity along with a fabulous group of volunteers and are responsible for all aspects of the work and fund raising undertaken by the group. The group operates on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Using the BBS scheme, Kevin has been able to take time out to begin work to extend the car park, paint the fencing which will surround a safe and friendly area for the parents to meet for coffee, weed the existing car park and arrange future meetings with local architects to begin work on building a structure to house a mechanical horse to further enable disabled children to ride when a live pony isn’t the answer. Kevin has been able to call on his construction industry contacts for materials for the car park extension, with London based Gavigan Paving being the first to the party.
Venture RDA (Riding for the Disabled) are supported by Children In Need and with this amazing support are able to provide riding and therapy for children with varying disabilities and during the last 12 months have provided 525 sessions.
